More and more out of school Filipinos are becoming interested in the Alternative Learning System and are becoming eager to once again, go to school to get their second chance in acquiring the necessary education needed to be able to contribute in our society as the Department of Education reported that over 89,000 increase in students that are recorded to be enrolled in the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
Alternative Learning System (ALS) is one of the DepEd’s campaign to help out of school youth as well as those adult dropouts to have access to education and be given another chance to finish their primary and secondary educations in a more convenient manner that is a lot different and less pressuring than regular classes.
There are many different reasons for a student to drop out of school be it due to problems such as financial, personal, family, and mental health problems. There are also a lot of different factor including sickness, unexpected pregnancy, or the urgent need to work. Some students however decided to quit schooling due to negative peer influences that pushed them to the extent of giving up their education.
This is why DepEd is very delighted to have an additional activity in which they will be accepting over 89,000 ALS enrollees all over the country. The department also concluded that this dramatic increase in enrollees is deeply attributed to the integration of ALS special registration booth for volunteers in this year’s Brigada Eskwela 2018 campaign.
Department of Education Assistant Secretary GH Ambat noted that there are over 300,000 learners who are already enrolled in the ALS program all over the country and most of these enrollees came from Bicol region, Davao region, Cagayan Valley region, and the region of Soccsksargen.
However, this is number is not yet finalized. The Department is still anticipating additional enrollees for the ALS program.
