Department of Education has released the official guideline to guide both public and private schools from elementary and high schools all over the country for the start of the school events this coming school year 2018-2019.
The official calendar the DepEd released contains the list of the 200 school days activities that will serve as the number of days for this upcoming school year. Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones issued a statement saying the calendar shall consist of 208 school days inclusive of the Five Day In Service Training and the three days for the Parent- Teacher Conferences (PTC) conducted within the year.
However, she made sure that students shall only be expected in school for a total of 200 class days and in this given class days, 187 days shall be dedicated to actual school operation, teaching and learning, the 187 day contact time for teachers and learners to interact is inviolable. This is to enable schools to efficiently implement the school events and activities.
DepEd order No. 25 series of 2018, dated May 24, issued by the department stated that the official School Calendar for this upcoming academic year 2019-2019 shall formally open on Monday, June 4, 2018 and shall end on Friday, April 5 of 2019.
However, Briones clarified that private schools and institutions may deviate from the released School calendar. She added that they may decide not to start the classes earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August. This is in accordance with the Republic Act No. 7791 also known as An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) Days to Not More Than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days. In relation to this, the schools have the responsibility to notify in advance their respective Regional Offices (ROs) regarding any deviation from the school calendar.
