The Department of Education (DepEd) released the School Year (SY) 2018-2019 calendar. The classes open on June 4, 2018, and are expected to end on April 5, 2019. This School Year calendar is implemented on public schools while private schools can start their classes no later than August 31 as provided in Republic Act (RA) No. 7797.
The 2018-2019 school year consists of 208 class days. This is inclusive of the five days of In-Service Training and the three days for Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) as indicated in DepEd Order No. 25. Overall, students are expected to go to classes for 200 days.
Private schools may adjust the number of school days but it must not be less than 200 days nor longer than 220 days. Add to that, the schools must first notify their respective regional offices (ROs) if they plan to deviate from DepEd’s school calendar.
The implementation of the SY 2018-2019 Calendar of Activities is strictly mandated as indicated in Enclosure No. 1. In addition, the said guidelines also allow ROs and the schools division offices to give support in school activities, particularly in classrooms. They are also tasked with monitoring the progress of schools and the evaluation.
