One of the many problems of a student is financial stability. Both Private Colleges and Universities require a month worth of salary of a regular working student. Even the State Universities requires other school fees that may burden some students who support their way into college.

To assist students in their financial needs, the University of the Philippines offers different kinds of programs that support those students who are in need of financial assistant. They vary according to the income of the parents or guardian of the student or the student himself.

There are programs that merely reduce the cost of tuition and other school fees, programs that provide living allowance on monthly or per semester basis, and Programs that defer cash payments during the semester. Listed below are the types of scholarship programs that the university offers.

Programs that decrease the cost of tuition and other school fees:

  • Iskolar ng Bayan Act – Provides free tuition and other fees for students.
  • Socialized Tuition (ST) System – Provides discount on the student’s tuition and other school fees. The decrease in fees will vary depending on the student’s income.
  • Other Scholarship and Grant Programs that waive tuition and other school fees offered by UP’s constituent universities

Programs that shoulder the living allowance of a student on monthly basis:

  • Student and Graduate Assistantships (SAGA) – program for upperclassmen and graduate students to gain experiences on leadership and ethics in the workplace, in the course of assisting UP in fulfilling its teaching, research, and public service functions. The Student Assistants will receive an allowance based on the hours they rendered.
  • Socialized Tuition (ST) System – Provides discount on the student’s tuition and other school fees. The decrease in fees will vary depending on the student’s income.
  • UP Presidential Scholarship and UP Presidential Leadership Grant – This scholarship is only awarded to students with a general weighted average of at least 1.75 and 2.75.
  • Other student programs that grant cash allowances offered by UP’s constituent universities
