We live in a world where change is constant and we face bigger and bigger challenges along the way. This is because the demand for almost everything nowadays seems to be more and more complex. And because these expectations are getting harder to meet, people tend to lose interest as well as their self-confidence.

It is easy to say to someone he or she needs to be more confident. But we all know that it is not that simple. Acting confident is like having to go through a certain extent where you eventually realize that you are just faking it, that you are not really what you are supposed to be. Being confident and acting confident is very different from each other.

But first, ask yourself, what is confidence? Confidence or Self- esteem is the belief that you are valuable, worthwhile, and capable. This is the perception of someone who are certain with his or her abilities and sure of him or herself that acts as a trigger for them to act courageously and carry themselves professionally.

Then, the question remains, why are you NOT confident? First, let me tell you the different factors that affect confidence.

  1. Biological Structures or Genes – The make- up of you genes affect your confidence because your genes impact things inside you like the balance of neurochemicals in your brain.
  2. Environment – This is composed of the people around you. If you are receiving positive reinforcements constantly, then you are more likely to develop strong walls of self-esteem and you will value yourself more whereas if you receive negative reinforcement, then you will lose sight of your true value.
  3. The choices you make – Confidence certainly did not exclude your personal decisions. The decisions you make have a larger impact on your self-esteem development. In other words, by keeping in mind that you are capable, that you are good at what you do, and that you are worthwhile will certainly give you the power to cultivate your own confidence.

 

Always remember this famous phrase, “Mind over matter” because whatever you think you are, and you push yourself to strive further, to never give up and to always, always keep in mind that you are skilled, that you are enough, that you have the potential to be someone and to make great things, then, you will never have to ask yourself why are you NOT confident.
